PULSELAB : PULSE MEASUREMENT SOFTWARE

All the measurement competencies you need to monitor fast pulses in one tool: PULSElab, Montena’s powerful pulse measurement software

Universal pulse measurement software for various types of sensors

Automatic management of one or more oscilloscopes

Compensate the transfer function of each element of the measurement chain

Save and recall large measurement setups

Automatic report generation

The monitoring of fast pulses requires specific measurement competencies. Montena propose a powerful software application that ease the measurement of the following type of impulses:

> Current pulse from current probes, Rogowski coils, current transformers
> Voltage pulse from voltage probes
> Fast high-voltage pulse from V-Dot sensors
> Fast high intensity electromagnetic pulse from B-Dot and D-Dot derivative field sensors

Montena PULSELab software application automatically controls your digital oscilloscopes. It improves measurement accuracy by considering the transfer function of all devices used in the measurement chains (sensors, attenuators, cables, fiber-optic links, etc.). You can display raw and compensated data in both time and frequency domains and export the data to a text file. It also lets you easily save your complex measurement setups and configurations for later or recurrent use!

FAQ

What is Montena’s PULSELab measurement software?

PULSELab is a high-performance pulse measurement software application developed by Montena to ease the measurement of electric and electromagnetic pulses during EMC immunity tests. It has been initially developed to ease the work of the operator performing High Power Electromagnetic immunity tests. It has been extended to centralize all the competencies required to monitor and analyse fast pulses using all kinds of sensors and probes.

PULSELab controls one or more oscilloscopes, uploads the measured traces, processes them to display the measured pulses using the transfer function of each element involved in the measurement chain, and automatically generates measurement reports.

What types of pulses can be measured with PULSELab?

PULSELab is compatible with a wide range of sensors and allows accurate measurement of:

  • Current pulse from current probes, Rogowski coils, and current transformers
  • Voltage pulse from voltage probes
  • Fast high-voltage pulse from V-Dot sensors
  • Fast high-intensity electromagnetic pulse from B-Dot and D-Dot derivative field sensors
How does PULSELab improve pulse measurement accuracy?

PULSELab automatically compensates the transfer function of each component in the measurement chain—such as sensors, attenuators, preamplifiers, cables, or fiber-optic links. This compensation can be either performed using fixed values or frequency dependent transfer responses, which significantly enhances the measurement accuracy and ensures that measurement reflects the true physical behavior of fast pulses.

How does PULSELab simplify fast pulse monitoring?

PULSELab combines all the functionality you need for pulse measurements in a single, powerful software tool.

  • You can control one or multiple digital oscilloscopes. Some customers control more than 16 realtime measurement channels in parallel.
  • Each oscilloscope channel can be connected to different sensors. For every channel, you will select from the provided database each component of the measurement chain: sensor, attenuator, preamplifier, cables, fibre optic links.
  • PULSELab will automatically configure each channel to optimize the dynamic of the oscilloscope, and the dynamic of the remote-controlled optical transmission link, using the expected pulse parameters and the transfer function of each element of the measurement chain.
  • PULSELab will collect all the traces from the oscilloscopes and utilize the transfer function of each one of the configured components to display the original measured values. PULSELab will for instance integrate the signal when a derivative sensor is used. You can also visualize both raw and compensated data in the time and frequency domains, and export results in text format.

The configuration can be saved and recalled later to reapply those same testing parameters. This is especially useful when the test comprises a large number of measurement channels.

PULSELab tremendously reduces risks of errors and mistakes. The operator simply reapplies an existing configuration and does not have to do any mathematical processing nor conversion of measured value. PULSELab does this fastidious job.

Can I save and reuse my measurement setups in PULSELab?

Yes, you can save and recall an unlimited number of measurement configurations. This helps you to ensure consistency and save setup time. This feature is very useful, ideal for laboratories or test engineers performing repetitive measurements using same or similar test configurations, as well as for the test setup calibration.

Does PULSELab generate reports?

Yes, the PULSELab measurement software includes automatic report generation. It helps document results quickly and reliably. Reports can consist of key measurement parameters, compensated data, and setup configurations for full traceability.

Measurement results can also be exported in graphics views or in Excel format.

Who should use PULSELab?

Montena’s pulse measurement software is designed for engineers and laboratories involved in:

  • High-voltage pulse measurements
  • Electromagnetic pulse (Lightning, NEMP, HESD) testing
  • Fast transient current or field analysis
  • EMC and R&D environments that require precise, automated data acquisition and compensation
How does PULSELab integrate with existing test systems?

PULSELab easily integrates into existing pulse measurement setups by connecting to standard oscilloscopes and compatible sensors. Its flexible architecture allows users to enhance current systems with automated control, compensation, and reporting — without changing their existing hardware.

The test reports are in HTML format and the measurements can be exported in .xls and .csv format for further integration in customer reports.

PULSELab is a LabVIEW based software application. It can be deployed on Microsoft Windows, Unix, Linux et Mac OS X operating machines.

Why choose PULSELab for fast pulse measurement?

This high-performance pulse measurement software combines all essential competencies for accurate and efficient fast pulse monitoring in one tool:

  • Automatic oscilloscope management
  • Transfer function compensation
  • Setup saving and recall
  • Automatic report generation
  • Support for multiple sensor types

PULSELab ensures precision, consistency, and efficiency for all pulse measurement tasks. It simplifies the testing and reduces the risks of human errors and mistakes.
